Video Transcript for Pro Series Tri-Ball Mount Review

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Pro Series Trailer Ball Mount, with three different ball sizes for a 2" hitch. Now, many times when we're towing, we are towing the same trailer so it's pretty straightforward. You get a ball and a ball mount that works well but sometimes you have a little bit of variety. So if you're doing something like kayaks on the weekend and having fun or maybe doing a little bit of work on the weekend, you can swap the ball over and it's gonna work with either configuration. So for a small kayak trailer that's an 1-7/8" coupler, it works great for that. And when we're ready to hop over to our work trailer and get some work done, simple as rotating this over and it's still gonna have that same 5/8" pin and clip and that's gonna hold this in place.

So now we're hooked up to our 2" coupler and it's the same ball mount so that just means that you're not gonna have to have three different types of balls or three different ball mounts. You don't have to torque any of these down as they are welded on so it's an all in one, which makes for towing a variety of trailers and also storing the ball mount super easy. So let's go ahead and we're gonna get this taken off and that way we can take a closer look at it. Now keep in mind this does not come with a pin and clip so you are gonna wanna pick up a 5/8" pin and clip. We have plenty of options available here at etrailer including a locking one, and that way you can leave this on your vehicle, lock it in place, and know that no one's gonna walk away with it.

But taking a closer look, we obviously have the three different ball sizes. So the weight capacities of what you can tow are dependent on which ball you're using. It's gonna work with 2" trailer hitch receivers but with a 1-7/8" option, we're looking at a 2000 pound gross trailer weight rating which is gonna be the weight of the trailer plus the accessories loaded up. Tongue weight is gonna be 10% of that, which is gonna be 200 pounds. Now as we swap to the 2", it does bump up quite a bit with a 6,000 pound gross trailer weight rating and a 600 pound tongue weight.

And the 2-5/16" is pretty heavy duty coming in at 10,000 pounds for gross trailer weight rating and 1,000 pounds for your tongue weight. What's really nice too is it's hollow so it's pretty light overall so storing this means that you'll be able to hook up to all the different trailers but also it's pretty lightweight so it makes it pretty easy to just toss in the back of our Durango that we have here or your truck or whatever you are using to tow. This is a straight shank style, so there is no riser drop. So something to keep in mind is measuring the coupler of your trailer as well as the hitch height and making sure that this works properly for the trailers you'll be hooking up. Another thing to consider as well is this is a steel construction with black powder coat and it looks really good, but if you're concerned that the powder coat's gonna scratch on the balls, there is another option available that still has a black powder coat finish, but a chrome finish on the ball, really kind of comes down to style, and the powder coat seems to really hold up long term.

And I think the black on all over it looks really cool, but really it comes down to personal preference. Now, something else that you're gonna wanna measure on your vehicle to make sure that this has clearance to be able to hook up your coupler without causing any damage to your fascia is gonna be measuring from the center of your hitchpin hole. Now from ours here on the shank to the center of the ball is gonna be eight inches, so that's pretty good. It sticks out far enough that shouldn't have any issues with this vehicle but you're gonna want to check yours just to make sure. Also, to stay safe, you want to not only compare the weight capacities here to your trailer as well as your hitch, but also your vehicle. Make sure that all of them are not being overloaded at any point and you're gonna want to take the lowest number of any of the components just to make sure that nothing fails while towing. And that was a look at the Pro Series Trailer Ball Mount with three different size balls for a 2" hitch.

After one year of use the product is still going strong. No signs of weakness in any way shape or form.

by:

Heavy duty hitch. Well built and welds are fine.

by:

We have not hooked the product up as of yet. We will be using it by May 19 or 20. After we get back from our trip we will let you know more as to how it performed. The product did arrive in good shape. Thank you so much on your promptness of shipment.

I ordered this hitch so that I could level out my boat trailer . It’s really nice heavy construction. It did the job for me . Really nice ease of changing ball size . Only thing is the sticker was off when it came out of the box . Not usable so it exposed the hole that hitch rotates on

by:

Perfect for my truck (2022 ram 1500) and my needs.

by:

I replaced an older, single ball drop mount with this one a year ago. It has worked great and gave me more confidence when towing on the 2" ball as it is rated with higher tow capacity than any of the others I looked at. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

by:

This is the best hitch for those of us that spend a lot of time pulling various trailers and like that added feature of a step to get in the bed. Everything from a small trailer to tow my mower to the shop, to an 12K loaded equipment trailer with tractor and implements. Adjustable height and switching ball sizes and back to the step is just a pin pull away. Zero issues with quality or secure towing. I would buy this again if I ever needed a second one for some reason. Highly recommend.

by:

for the past 20,000 miles this hitch has been exposed to the elements and the chrome has only discolored mildly despite the north east winter and road salts. the snap ring attached to the ring cable broke but a 1/8 snap ring from tractor supply was an easy fit/replacement. it's been towing trailers loaded between 3-13,000 lbs for several 300 mile runs and there have been no significant issues (knock wood). Overall this has been an expensive option but it's been doing the job and is way better then keeping a milk crate full of extra draw bars... Bottom line: So Far, So Good.

by:

Great Product. Has worked as expected. I have been very satisfied with it and would recommend this product to anyone who asked.
I have been so satisfied with this product I would like to get a pintle mounting plate for it. However I am required to purchase a new shank to get a pintle mounting plate to fit the existing product I have. Is there any way possible to purchase a pintle mounting plate without the shank?

by:

Fits well and essay to use. I have several trailers around the house. Heavy to light loads. Pulling tractors, 4x4 wheelers or off to kayak in the rivers or lakes. When the kids want to play they have to set it up. The ease of setting the hitch up make for a quick get-a-way and a fun day. Evan for the kid to set up.

Thank etrailer

by:

Works good, no rattles. Works for all trailer types/sizes. Only complaint is the cable that restrains the cotter pin isn’t long enough, had to cut it and make my own. Still gonna give it five stars because it wasn’t a big deal and the hitch does work very well.

by:

I loved the product when I first got it, because of the looks, better capacity then competing hitches, flexibility, and ease of use. Now after a year I am kind of disappointed because it is already rusting quite a bit. Also, recently I had to rotate it from 2 5/16" to 2" and it was quite difficult to rotate because of rust and it doesn't appear to have a way to lube it.

by:

Great product. It's great to have all the option with the D.O.T. weight rating. It is a bite longer then a stranded hitch and you may have to lengthen your safety chains. But well worth it.

by:

The product has performed as expected. My only complaint was the original photo on etrailer showed tethering for the pins. The received product did not have then. When I inquired about little resolution was provided.

by:

Product came in a very timely manner (2 days after it was ordered). Very happy as my job requires me to pull multiple trailers in the same day and of course, each trailer has a different size ball as well as a different ride height. So this product allows me to only have to carry one hitch, rather than 3 as well switching between ball sizes very quickly and as much as necessary.

by:

Fast delivery: item arrived in good condition.
Very
sturdy and massive.
Don't forget to get a hitch pin! I got part id #63069 which is made for this hitch and locks the 2 main bolts with locking pins.

by:

Solid hitch! Don't really need the 1-7/8 ball unless you have older trailers with small balls

by:

Very High Quality, works great! Delivered a day early. Glad it came when it did, used it within 10 mins of receiving it for a 200 mile trip pulling 8000lbs plus. The first time I've pulled with a new truck that sits much higher than the old one. This hitch allowed me to pull my trailer level, and easily. Looks as good as it performs.

Thanks!

by:

Very heavy duty, maybe an overkill for my application but better to have it that way. Went to move the balls to the backside of the unit, but it won't slide underneath. I tried it both ways, but this isn't a deal breaker. I love the towing capacity, the flexibility of the different sizes.

  • Will Pro Series Tri-Ball Ball Mount Fit a 2008 Infiniti QX56
The tri-ball mount, # PS80425, will fit in a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver opening. If you have a 2 inch hitch on your 2008 Infiniti QX56 then this ball mount would fit the hitch. It measures 8 inches from center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the 1-7/8 and 2 inch balls and 6-3/4 inches to the center of the 2-5/16 inch ball. You will need to make sure these measurements clear the rear bumper of your QX56. You will also need a hitch pin or locking hitch pin if you do not already...

  • Tri-Ball Mount with Black Hitch Balls for 2 Inch Receiver
The Pro Series Tri-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 1-7/8", 2", 2-5/16" Balls - Black # PS80425 will not work with the Curt Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount for 2" Trailer Hitches # D900. The adjustable 3-ball mounts we carry such as the aforementioned Curt each have chrome hitch balls. For a tri-ball mount with black hitch balls there are fixed mounts such as the Pro Series or B&W Triple Tow # BWBMTT31004. I have added links to video reviews of both ball mounts for you to check out and I...

  • Interchangeable Hitch Ball and Ball Mount Recommendation for a 1-1/4 inch Hitch
Sounds like you are looking for a multi-ball ball mount similar to the part # PS80425 but for a 1-1/4 inch hitch instead. I have a solution for you, but there are no ball mounts like that for the 1-1/4 inch hitches. Instead you would need a ball mount like the part # C45019 which fits 1-1/4 inch hitches and then an interchangeable ball set like part # 800B.
